Now comes District 121 with a referendum, which the ballot questions says will add another $118 in taxes to a home assessed at $100,000. That tax offering was defeated by a wide margin. They were up in November when the graduated state income tax proposal backed by Gov. Interchangeable for any tax hike offering, they simply proclaim in white letters on a bold red background: “Vote NO tax referendum.” Over the years in Warren Township, any election - state or local - that has a tax-increase question on the ballot is greeted by the reusable signs, the mischievous work of Gurnee businessman Shawn Depke. Warren Township High School District is seeking a “limiting rate” in the education fund which, if approved, will increase property owners’ taxation rate an added 35 cents per $100 in assessed valuation.
